03-14-2008, 9:53 AM Delly Joined on 03-14-2008 Posts 1 Drop Stitch scarf Hi - can anyone remember a pattern for a scarf- very popular in the fifties,which involved  casting on - how many stitches ? then increasing  - how ? wool round or knit into stitch - then garter stitch until desired length, then dropping stitch, and run this down until it meets up with the increased stitch at the begining.  I knit lots of them at the time, but can't even remember what size needles were used, but then it was over half a century ago   !!!    Thank you.    Report

To increase it was wool over twice or three times which ever length you required being dropped. I hope i have jogged your memory a little. OK............    Report

The needles used were thick wooden ones, not sure of the gauge but the stitch used was just plain. When you knitted the length required you dropped every l0th stitch or so and pulled them all the way down the length and then cast off. I would cast on some stitches and judge when I had enough.    Report
