the only thing different about linen is that it is softer in the hand just go about you needlework following the kits instructions. they will tell you to go over one cross thread or two it should also tell you how many threads to use just do it good luck

Don't be put off by the material - there is very little difference in the finished picture - except that a picture finished on linen/evenweave can look 'smoother'.
Here are some tips to help you tell the difference;
Aida is a type of material that is arranged in ‘blocks’ that you sew a stitch over – ie, you can see the holes for your stitches.
Evenweave/linen fabric has a regular weave, that gives a regular sized stitch, but you may have to ‘count’ how many threads you are sewing over, to get your even sized stitches.
The fine evenweave fabrics are made up of ‘threads’ instead of blocks. Normally these are worked ‘over two threads’, so when you are following the chart you would miss one hole and go into the next.
So for example if you wanted to work a 14 count Aida (14 holes per inch) project on finer fabric, you could work it on 28 count evenweave (28 holes per inch) fabric, over two threads. The cross stitches would be exactly the same size, and therefore the complete design would be the same size. This also has the advantage that part stitches are easier to do, as a hole already exists in the middle of each square.
Hope this all helps, good luck!

Hi emmalou
As the replies mentioned linen is a lovely fabric to use. 28count linen is similar to using 14count Aida fabric. Personally, I would take out the contents of the kit, smooth out the fabric and lay it before you along with chart and the threads. find the Centre of the fabric by in the same way as the centre of the aida fabric. using lines of coloured thread, which you can easily remove, by the by. then select a colour thread up the needle and you are away. Oh, by the by, why not take a peek at New Stitches website as you will find the information you seek there, and of course, if you sign up to the free website, you can find out lots more information. What is the kit of, and what is the size of the completed design, out of curiosity. Must be lovely to stitch. It will be a lovely memory of your aunty.
Hope this is of assistance.
