Finding an alternative yarn

Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help me? I want to knit the fair isle yoke cardigan on the coats craft website, but it is an old pattern made using Patons Glitz which has been discontinued, I would like to use an alternative yarn, but does anyone know whether that would be a DK or a 4 ply etc? as I have never seen this glitz yarn. I hope someone can help as I am supposed to knit this cardigan for someones Christmas present!!!

Hi
I think it may be DK as the patterns show a needle size of 3.75mm and 4.5mm needles.
Good luck!

Hi Tirvil, I've checked the type yarn Glitz is : 75 % polyamide, 25% metallic 50 g is ca-.80 meters needle size 4.5 and 19 stitches to 27 lines for 10 cm. This is the nearest yarn I could find for this Bergere de France from Intoknit.co.uk (very reliable and quick in my experience) Glitz substitute could be made like this: Jaspee yarn is 80% acrylic, 20% worsted wool 50g is 95 m needle size 4 and 19 stitches to 26 rows for 10 cm Then for the metallic effect knit Lurex thread (also from Bergere de France 650m roll) together with the jaspee. This should give you an almost exact substitute for the Glitz. In fact, any yarn that you find which corresponds in Stitch/row count can be used together with the lurex. This is my suggestion. I'm living in Norway but order from Intoknit - there must be many other yarns that you could find in your local shops. It's not the needle size that is important when looking for a substitute - more the stitch/row count. You don't have much time again before Christmas - I wish you luck in your knitting project.
